With deep sorrow KolkataTheatre records the sudden, tragic passing of Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee on Sunday, March 29, a most untimely, premature exit at the age of 42. One of the young guard making a name for himself in Bangla theatre, he attained a major height in cowriting Ichheymoto’s acclaimed current production, Je Janlagulor Akash Chhilo. On March 25, this play, in which Rahul also acted one of the main parts (photo), won four META 2026 awards in New Delhi, including Best Ensemble. The director’s note for it ended with these lines: “friendship is … about looking out for that friend with whom you played hide and seek as a child. May friendship survive; may it thrive.” Our hands reach out to Ichheymoto on the loss of their friend. May his friends ensure that his show goes on.
