Sobti’s famous novella is a unique mother-daughter story of mutual attachment, connection and understanding, involving conflicts of values, thoughts and views. The mother wants to live the remaining moments of her life according to her wishes, putting aside illness, sorrow and pain in one stroke. Sobti explores the relationships between man and woman, home and family, women and children. She also raises the question of a woman’s own choice, privacy, freedom and independence.
